We then compared this magazine front cover to a more new, recent, modern film magazine called 'empire'. The front cover to this contained a lot more colour and images that were perhaps more eye catching.

Analysis of a magazine cover

On the front page of each issue is the star of the latest film, in this case it is Daniel Radcliffe who plays Harry Potter. He is wearing the iconic glasses which are smashed in one eye, and looks like he has been fighting. The magazine uses pictures which give clear indications to the audience of what the latest film is and an indication of the genre/plot. The colouring of the magazine is very dark, and looks like a night setting this could highlight the genre of the film which is fantasy. Normally the magazine has actors such as Bruce wllis, or actresses such as Meagan Fox, which would appeal to more of a male audience compared to Daniel Radcliffe. Harry Potter is known to have more of a female following, so this issue may have been bought more by women. However, the front cover also shows what other films are included inside the magazine such as Wolverine and Quantum of Solace, these films will appeal more to males so thy may buy it for the contents. The title is in a very bold type face and is red. This will grab the buyers attention and draw them to the magazine.
Our film may appear on a magazine like this becasue it is female based which would appeal to the males, but also covers teenage issues which would appeal to the younger generation.

I also researchs marketing campaigns for recent films such as The Dark Knight and Cloverfield. teaser trailer is something that is often used in order to get the audience excited, posters and websites are also often created to add extra hype to the audience. A element of mystery is used in most campaigns in order to make the audience want to pay to go and work out the mystery
A2 practical
I decided to research the campaign for the film called Fish Tank. I found that the teaser trailer was first released on the internet using the name of the director in the trailer to attract an audience. Then the website was created which had images of the posters used for advertising the films (tubes, buses etc). All this information helped with my understanding of how to create a trailer and a buzz for a film release.

Teaser Trailers
The Cloverfield teaser trailer became popular mostly due to complementry media such as myspace and facebook. However, word of mouth also helped increase the popularity of the teaser trailer as well as online and mobile adverts.
The Dark Knight teaser trailer also had similar ways of advertising its teaser trailer. I also discovered that its official movie website helped do this also as it was a much waited for film.

Preperation for A2 coursework
The marketing campaign i decided to look at was 'Cloverfield' (2008) Directed by Mat Reeves. This was a viral marketing campaign and gained publicity by a teaser trailer, word of mouth and a widget (a portable chunk of code that can be installed and executed with any seperate HTML web page by an end user without requiring additional compication- taken from wikipedia).
Below is the teaser trailer for 'Cloverfield':
This teaser trailer was shown before the Transformer film released in the summer of 2007. The name of the film was not shown in the trailer, it only gave the release data and the name of the Producer, JJ Abrams. This would have created genre expectations as he also produced the television series 'Lost'. Anyone who wanted to search for the trailer on the Internet would have been led to a website named the release date of the film.
The excitment of the film led to online discussions on blogs etc. The release of the iconic poster of the Statue of Liberty heightened the online chatter and soon the webite was renamed with the name of the film and contained links to Myspace and Facebook. The 'word of mouth' effect created great publicity for the film and the marketing campaign is seen to be one of the best.
My group decided that we would like to do a teaser trailer for a film in the genre of a teenage film. I decided to look at a teaser trailer for a film in that genre which is being promoted at the moment. Below is the teaser trailer for 'Fame':
The genre of this film is Teen Musical, the genre conventuions of this film are:
1. They are all in their youth except for authority figures e.g teachers.
2. They are all wearing dance clothes to reinfore the dance school setting.
3. All the scenes tale place on either a stage, dance studio etc.
The Narrative of the film is young teenagers all trying to become famous.
4. The teenagers represent typical middle/upper class boys and girls who want to make it in show buisness.
Below is the poster that was released for the film 'Fame'

Synopsis for trailer.
We are going to do a thriller (older) version of "Thirteen" (2003). The main plot will be about a group of girls going to a party and experimenting with new experiences (sex, drugs, drink, relationships). This will be done in the form of a montage of the party with different shots of people around the house e.g. sniffing cocaine, taking tablets, putting makeup on, drinking shots, dancing, kissing. However what starts off as just a little bit of fun goes terribly wrong when one of the girls (Kayte) overdoses on an unknown substance (shot of her foaming at the mouth). Another girl (Jade) has her drink spiked and gets taken advantage of by an unidentified male. After finding her friends (Jenny) over reacts and runs onto the roof cliff-hanger ending. Maybe filmed handheld for some of the shots with one of the characters as the narrator.
